FAQs for First-Time Renters - Empire Trailer Hire

FAQs for First-Time Renters

  1. Checking Vehicle Towing Capacity:

Ensure your vehicle's towing capacity is adequate for the trailer's weight plus the weight of what you plan to move. The total weight should be within your car's towing limits.

  2. Trailer Brakes:

Empire Trailer Hire's heavy-duty car trailers, hydraulic tilt car trailers, and flat top trailers have electric brakes. Smaller trailers above 750kg ATM feature overrun brakes, while those below this weight do not require brakes.

  3. Deposit for Trailer Hire:

No deposit is required at Empire Trailer Hire. Customers only pay for their hire.

  4. Cargo Weight Limit:

The recommended cargo weight depends on your vehicle, its hitch system rating, and the trailer's capacity.

  5. Pick-up and Drop-off Locations:

Your pick-up and drop-off location will be provided in your confirmation email from Empire Trailer Hire.

  6. Handling Fishtailing:

Fishtailing indicates misloaded cargo. Reduce speed and safely reposition your load, placing about 60% of the weight towards the front of the trailer.

  7. Hauling Heavy Items:

Be cautious with dense, heavy items like books or building materials. These can quickly exceed the trailer's weight limit even if they don't take up much space.

  8. Crossing Borders with Rented Trailer:

Empire Trailer Hire allows for unlimited kilometres during your hire, but specific policies on crossing national borders should be confirmed directly with the company.

  9. Weather Resistance of Trailers:

Empire Trailer Hire's enclosed trailers are weather-resistant. However, they are not guaranteed to be watertight, so precautions should be taken to protect valuable items.

  10. Availability of Tie-Downs:

All trailers from Empire Trailer Hire come equipped with tie-down points.

  11. Loading Tips:

Load heavier items in front, towards the tow vehicle, with about 60% of the weight in front of the center load line. Secure cargo to prevent shifting.
