Turn your headlights fully ON

The brakes get power from your headlights

Your Elecbrakes gets power through the taillight cable. That cable only works when your headlights are fully switched ON — not Auto, not DRL.

⚠️
Auto and DRL often don't work

These settings often don't turn on the taillight cable at all. Your brakes might not get any power.

2
Connect the app to your controller

Which controller is on your trailer? Tap to see your steps.

ELBC2000 — Bluetooth Only

No tapping needed. Just open the app while standing near the controller and it will find it automatically.

  • Headlights ON. 7-pin trailer plug connected.
  • Open the Elecbrakes app. Your controller will appear in the device list — tap it to connect.
  • Press your brake pedal. The app circle turns red. That means it's working. ✅
📡
Only one phone at a time

If another phone is already connected it won't let you in. Ask your passenger to disconnect theirs first.

3
Do a quick calibration drive
The controller needs to feel which way is forward

It only takes a minute. Drive slowly down a straight road and brake a couple of times. The app will tell you when it's done.

  • Drive slowly in a straight line down your street
  • Brake gently 2–3 times
  • Wait for the app to say "Calibration Complete"
🎯
Only need to do this once

After calibration the system keeps learning and getting better every time you drive. You won't need to do this step again.

4
Check you've got two green lights
Open the Data tab in the app

Before you drive anywhere, do this quick check. It takes less than a minute and tells you the brakes are getting power.

  • Headlights manual ON → Tail light goes green
  • Press the brake pedal all the way down → Brake light goes green
  • Both green and showing 10V+? You're good to go.
Two green lights = safe to tow

If either one doesn't go green, check your connections before driving anywhere.

🎉

You're ready to go!

That's all you need for a normal trip. The brakes will take care of themselves from here.

🔧
Adjust in Settings → Program

Test at 40–50 km/h in a safe area and adjust in small steps. You're looking for smooth, even stops — no jerking, no lagging.

Three things you can change
Minimum Gentle stops

Drive at 20km/h and brake gently. Adjust until you barely feel the trailer brakes.

Forward Normal stopping

How hard the trailer brakes when you stop normally. Adjust until stops feel smooth.

Reverse Backing up

Reverse slowly and adjust until backing up feels natural.

B
What the app circle means
🔵
Blue = Ready

Connected and ready. All good.

🔴
Red = Braking

Trailer brakes are active right now

🔘 Manual Override

Tap the circle to apply trailer brakes without pressing your car's brakes. Use +/ to change strength. Tap again to turn off. Only ever use this at low speed for a quick test.

🚨
Don't leave Override switched on

It's only for quick testing at low speed in a straight line. Leaving it on while driving will damage the trailer brakes.

C
SwayControl
Automatically stops your trailer from swinging

Sway is when your trailer starts swinging side to side at highway speed. SwayControl detects this and brakes the trailer automatically to pull it straight. You don't need to do anything — it works on its own.

If the gauge keeps swinging wide

Slow down and pull over safely. Check how your trailer is loaded — weight may be too far back.

Control from your car's built-in screen

Connect your phone via USB or wirelessly, open Elecbrakes on the car screen, and you can monitor everything without touching your phone.

Apple CarPlay

USB or wireless → open app on car screen → use touch, steering wheel, or Siri

Android Auto

USB or wireless → open app on car screen → use Previous / Next buttons

🌡️
Too Hot — Thermal Protection

The unit is overheating. Pull over safely and let it cool before driving again.

🚨
Brakes pulsing hard and fast?

The EB2 lost main power and switched to emergency mode. Pull over — check headlights are ON and trailer plug is fully seated.

📵 Can't connect to the controller

  • Unplug the 7-pin trailer plug, wait 5 seconds, plug it back in
  • Check any adaptors between your car and trailer plug
  • Make sure only one phone is connected at a time
🪶 Brakes feel too weak
  • Go to Settings → Program in the app
  • Increase gain in small steps — try +10% at a time
  • For a loaded trailer, try starting at 80–100% gain
  • Test at 40–50 km/h in a safe area after each change
💪 Brakes are grabbing too hard
  • Reduce the gain setting in small steps in Settings → Program
  • Also reduce the Minimum setting slightly
  • Re-test at 40–50 km/h
⚡ Brakes pulsing rapidly
